Final Self-Reflection

LSC1503 – Final Self-Reflection

In The spoken communication course, we've learned the TED talks, the types of announcements, interviews, oral presentations, debate, and digital. All these subjective had helped me a lot through college and life experiences. I've learned on how to express my thought and ideas into something inspiring and into a useful message; from the TED Talk lessons. Another thing this course was useful is the types of announcements which are Public Service Announcements, campaigns, and commercials, which helped me to know how to send an important message or advertise that would benefit the society in a positive way, in public through media networks, and sites.

The third thing that I've learned was how to communicate with another person by asking them certain questions related to the subject I'm concentrating on, which is through an interview. An oral presentation has steps and concepts in presenting and sharing the information in an oral way, is what I've also learned. Fifth, is on how to run a debate, I've learned the concepts and methods on how to interact and present an argument. The last thing helped me, was the digital story, which taught me on how to show or present a story (story telling) in a video, with pictures, and audio; which would affect the audience's emotions.

I'll definitely be using those skills that I've learned   in the future, when I'll be presenting a project, or how to manage a meeting by announcing them and then having an interview. Another thing that will benefit me in the future is the story telling but in an entertaining way which is represented in a video; and last I'm going to use is the idea of TED talk and debate put together, which is arguing by expressing your thoughts and ideas of what you think is right.

How is this presentation different from others you have seen?

In this presentations there were more pictures presented and summarized facts said. In other presentations they would have the sentences or information written in lots of slides and with less pictures.

How do you think this presentation might engage the audience?

It might engage the audience because of the important facts the man said, and there were pictures that will clear the information and the more pictures the more the audience gets the attraction from the presentation.

Child Internet Safety PSA - Online Predators

There are many problems that happened caused by online predators. Most of the children can be fooled by a random person they've talked to online, and started taking them seriously and personally.

The online predator’s most important goal is to get the child they've met online, out of the house and meet up, which can cause rape, murder or any type of abuse.

As an example, in the UAE teenage girls start meeting older men throughout the Instagram or any other social media, and tend on meeting without the notice of their families.

Clint Smith: The danger of silence

Clint Smith: The danger of silence

Clint talked about silence and how it affects your choices in life that might lead to an unwanted or unaccepted situation toward your perspective or to what you want. In the speech he gave, he quoted one of Martin Luther quotes, which said that you’ll remember the silence of your friends instead of remembering the words that an enemy said; which in other words, mean that silence can show weakness, agreement to a situation and agreeing with what you’re hearing.

Clint, as a teacher he helps and encourages his students to express their thoughts and ideas instead of silence. He taught them four steps, which were read critically, write consciously, speak clearly, and tell your truth.
Clint explained that he failed in expressing his truth, because he was expressing the truth that people wanted to hear instead of what people needed to hear. Clint states that silence is not a solution, and instead, you should talk and express your own thoughts and ideas.

Points:
·       Tell your truth, and share your thoughts.
·       Giving something up and scarifying, is one of the most meaning full and worthy thing to do.
·       Speaking and spreading your thoughts and ideas is very valuable thing to scarifies to share with the world.
·       People spend time on what other people say instead of thinking of what they didn’t.

·       Slice shows fear.
